Games and experiments

GAME: Mind Labyrinth
A brain assisted puzzle game working with Neurosky EEG headset.
A collaboration with an old mate.

EXPERIMENT: Red And Blue
Finally found the time to play with augmented reality.
A mini-game where a red box and a blue box fight shooting at each-other when in gun range.
-
EXPERIMENT: Dessiner avec des données
Using car accidents statistics from data.gouv.fr (2005-2010) and haxe/three.js.

An experiment with processing.
About
About me
I am Laurent Bédubourg!
Let's say I am an "indie game developer": it usually means someone who creates games on his own.
A lot of people is going "indie" these times.
I engaged because of the independence keyword.
Eight years ago, I helped bootstrap a successful internet game company with a few good friends. The company grew well and the group slowly took away our individual independence. When you work inside a company, even a great one like this one, you have to embrace a consensus, play safe to protect your associates
When you are the only boss, you can decide freely, by mind, by heart and by soul.
Note that independence doesn't mean you have to work alone, it means that each collaboration is a sacred encounter between two humans.
I am deeply convinced that a human can only reach a greater level of humanity and freedom through independence and responsibility.
That's my goal and I intend to change the world with this idea.
About games
I grew up with games and computers (CPC464, CPC6128, AMIGA, PCs, +GameBoy, PS, PS2). Like many I was fond of this game and that game, blah blah blah, Bitmap Brothers, blah blah blah, etc.
Today I hate most commercial games. Bold stories, 3D with big guns, obligation to spend your life in front of your computer to level up some stupid avatar inside a stupid fantasy world. They are after your money and they want you to stay there and spend all you can.
But there's still hope, that's what indie games are all about!
I want my own games to contain what I respect the most:
- A fun gameplay,
- An interesting story,
- A good realization,
- Something spicy :)
And I want my fucking games to respect humans: the players AND the programmer!
The good thing is: creating gaming material is funnier and easier than ever.
There are tons of new devices to play with (Kinect, Touchscreens, EEG headsets, Arduino) and many quality open source libraries and tools to code faster.
I intend to embrace whatever inspires me and create a lot of experiences :)
I am not perfect nor stupid and I know that my games won't all be that great. But I am stubborn and I will continue to create things until I die. Hence I expect some games to be quite good in the long run.
